The weekend is a time for many to be able to unwind from their week. Yet I’ve found that the weekend is the hardest time for me to unwind. I’m constantly focussed on the future and I look at this time as “spare time I can use to catch up to whatever I couldn’t in the week”. No wonder I’m burnt out all the time. And I’m not alone in thinking this way either.

The whole point of the weekend is to have time to rejuvenate and rest before the next work week. And yet this is become less and less the case for many people.

Several of my friends have told me that their boundaries between workweeks and weekends have become blurred because there is no way to keep up with other life tasks during the work week. For instance, the housework. Or perhaps just catching up and responding to emails and texts which aren’t work related but still essential. This is why so many of us end up exhausted. What does one do when the off button is hidden away behind so much to do that we simply cannot find it?
